Couch potatoes on a rainy day

31 Oct

I was supposed to post this Saturday and didn’t 😦 so keep that in mind. K

The nice thing about having no place to be, at any specific time, is just that. Nice. A vacation without the stress of ‘hurry up and do everything’.                                                              We arrived in Portland last night (10/29)   about 5, got settled in and planned on leaving the trailer tomorrow and heading to the coast and just drive up or down or wherever for hours tomorrow. James has never seen the Oregon coast and I find it amazingly beautiful  and I’m excited to share it with him. Well, no big surprise to any of us, rain. Good old fashioned northwest rain. Rolling with our new temporary slogan, “Eh”. Again, no time frame right now. The house/property whatever hunt has to start real soon, but for now, taking it all in.

So we hunker in for a rainy day. Not one fur baby objected. I made bacon and basted eggs for breakfast and EVERYBODY  wants some. I mean “only one thing smells like bacon and that’s bacon!!!”

If you zoom in you can literally see daddy (the black cat) licking his chops. So after breakfast James makes a store run to ensure our “not needing to leave the rest of the day.” And I’m cozing up and cruising through whatever local channels we can get here via antenna. So I stumbled on a channel called METV, and it happens to be at the right time a show is about to start. I kid you not the before it starts I’m told “the program you are about to see is both educational and inspiring.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Ok?… and it’s……Saved By The Bell Bitches!!!! I knew I wasn’t wasting my time watching it for all those years!!!

So we chilled, cuddled, wrapped up in blankets with a box of (good) red wine and listened to the rain and wind and the damn Cubs win and the Cowboys win again (do not take Prescott out of the starting position! Obviously!) happy about the boys, 😩about the Cubs. We be Cardinals fans!⚾️

I Love Dog Lovers!! πŸΆ

29 Oct

Heading up north this morning (10/29) we plan a stop at Camping World in Eugene OR. I call ahead to see if they’re dog friendly. The lady very enthusiastically explains YES!

So, we’re in the store, first time in one of these and after roaming a few aisles a very nice woman approaches and wants to pet our kids, and by pet I mean coddle! Beau takes attention in stores to mean there are treats involved. Usually there are, but not always and every time we try to explain this to him he doesn’t believe us. Well of course she says “let me see, there might just be some around here”. While she’s gone a man from behind the counter comes around, wants to pet the dogs, of course, and again Beau, “where’s the treats?” Dorothy (if you’re ever in this particular Camping World look for her) comes back holding little biscuits. It’s a miracle! She puts one if front of Lily and Beau straight up takes it out of her hand. Again, he’s pretty sure all stores we go in have treats just for him.

At this point we know all about Dorothy’s dogs, present and past. (I’m convinced it was her that answered the phone when I inquired about the dog friendly policy) πŸ˜‰ So we continue on and not but 2 minutes later another gentlemen comes around from the counter and wants to pet the kids, of course. And Beau, well we all get it. And after a minute with him we learn of his dog that recently passed and hear stories and see pictures. He was happy to be getting some doggie attention. Not but seconds later, a man comes out from the back and stops and gets all up in their loving business and says “thanks! that just made my day!” πŸ‘πŸ»  I mean, they are pretty cute

Quick side note, we just passed the 45th Parallel. We are in the middle of the world as i type this!!!

Anywho, we were in this store for at least an hour, got some very useful information about something that is fairly new and foreign to us. Most of the time I just looked at James and said “did you get all that?” Because I did not!! And Dorothy came by a couple more times for a couple more ear scratching and back rubbing sessions (for the dogs not her), πŸ€— and to answer any other questions we might have or help we might need. This store gets an A++

And then of course, more treats on the way out. My dogs are freaking rockstars wherever we take them!! Except the dog park, they can’t be trusted, but with humans, well, they have the cuteness factor figured out 😍

Heading on up

28 Oct

Leaving California.

Next destination, Sutherlin Oregon. Tires βœ”οΈ Gas βœ”οΈ Oil βœ”οΈ Dogs pooped/peed βœ”οΈ

Let’s go!! About one minute on the road and a car driving by honks and points at our trailer. Fuck, there’s a window blowing around. Thought we closed them all. But apparently nope. So it’s the emergency exit window by the head of our bed. Must’ve hit the latch or something while, let’s say sleeping πŸ˜‰

Window latched βœ”οΈ. Fuck nope. One more time. K βœ”οΈ And we’re off again!!!

This is how i know we’re heading north, mountains! With trees! That are green!

And this is how I know we’re still in California, note how low the water level is 😦 Didn’t quite get a good enough pic sorry. I missed the good parts. This is what happens when you stare at a damn phone.  Oh well, taking a time out now.                                                          Ok, wait, real quick, here’s one I just got.

Ok, Im really gonna go this time.

5pm.. we made it to Sutherlin Oregon. Driving through Shasta mountain, highest peak on the I-5 tapping out at 4,350′.  Yep, that’s high. The f250 handled it like a champ!

Made a quick stop for a bite to eat. Saw on a road sign for a cafe and bar right off the freeway. I called real quick to see if they are dog friendly. She said they have an outdoor smoking area we could sit at. Cool done. We get there and the outdoor smoking area is really just that. Some chairs along the rail and plastic tables with ashtrays. 😦 it was a little dive bar restaurant area and I asked if we could eat outside (not a dining area by far) She was super cool and allowed us to sit inside with the dogs if they were well behaved and “acted like service dogs”.                                                               I love nice understanding people.

So we’re here at the Hi-way Haven RV park.

They have a huge outdoor movie screen with a little grassy area to park your chair and get all drive-in movie style!!! They’re playing a horror movie in honor of Halloween, ‘The Mummy’. Tomorrows is ‘Gremlins’, Damnit!! Why couldn’t that be tonight’s?  Either way,  what a great way to spend your evening!

They also have two real long fenced in dog runs, right next to each other, perfect for the dogs yet again. But this time one of them had a little dog running around. Negative ghost rider, not with this Lily, she would run that dog over! Instead she barked and ran alongside the fence and even threw herself against it!!!   πŸ˜”                                                        I’m also pretty sure the dogs have completely forgotten their names, but the other Rv goers now know what their names are supposed to be.

Ok, off to cuddle up with the family and some wine and watch an outdoor big screen movie!!!

Goodnight.

The first bump

27 Oct

Logged another 5 or so hours yesterday, 10/26. It seems to be a comfortable pace for all of us. The cats need stable ground, it seems that meow meows found a nice little cubby to hide and then she peed on James’ socks, thanks!!  So she can’t be trusted! And the dogs just do circles in the back seat trying to sleep or get comfortable. James especially needs the time to decompress.

Got to our RV park, and while James was checking in there was a lady in the office as well talking to the receptionist and he heard her asking for an extra nights stay. Saying how she was planning on driving up to Oregon tomorrow but there is supposed to be high winds and rain.

That’s where our next stop was planned, fortunate for us that he was there at the right time. So we chose to take another day stay as well. A little soon for us to be driving in high winds and rain. We will have to face that fate at some point, and probably soon, but you know what? We ain’t got shit to do right now but drive north so chilling isn’t a problem. Onward! Friday πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Staying at Mountain Gate RV Park, really nice place. They have a nice spacious fenced in area for the dogs, they definitely need it!! Even better, a hot tub with temps up to the Gingerich standards!! Sadly we can’t go in together, no dogs allowed, and can’t leave them unattended. Which we wouldn’t do anyway, and if you’ve met Lily you’d totally understand. She’s a bit on the ‘please don’t ever leave me I’ll loose my shit and find a way to break out to hunt you down!’ Kinda crazy.  But that will not keep us away!!

So at about 3am the said rain starts, and it has not stopped. I really do miss listening to the rain. Then, at feeding time this morning, noticed a little wet spot on the carpet. Nope, not “little” it was a bit larger area than that one spot. SWEET!!   Adventure really has begun.  Thankfully nothing was leaking from the roof! Adjusted the jacks to level it out and, note to self, put a level on the list and using that from now on. πŸ™‚ James grabbed a tarp from the gas station/stuff store .5 miles away, (he walked there in the rain, not worth it to unhitch and re-hitch the truck)  put it on the roof and the leak has stopped!!!! YAY….. However that means we may need to get it looked at and possibly repaired. Hoping it was just not level and won’t happen again.

Tomorrow is another day full of adventure. Looking forward to it. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ·

And we’re off!!!!

27 Oct

So, we’re moving. All of us, husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats. We bought a 27′ travel trailer and are moving up north. Built a beautiful home in San Diego over a period of 6 years. I guess I should say renovated.                                                                      I feel like we built it because everything on the property, fence, patio, every color, door, plant, bathrooms, closets, kitchen. You name it, we created it. But its time to uproot and follow the rain, there’s none here. The brown the dry the lack of water, we did it long enough. Time to go while we’re still young enough to do it again.

So we moved out October 20, went to a campsite, exhaled, maybe cried a little (me) and the journey begins!!

Monday 24th, 10am

And we’re off!! Leaving from Sweetwater campground in Bonita that we’ve been at for 3 days. Giving ourselves time to get our bearings straight and get comfortable in our new home, and why not, we’ve got nowhere to be πŸ™‚

Don’t be jealous. πŸ˜‰

We left a few things behind at the house, paint, mortar, grout, you know, things we clearly wouldn’t need to travel with. There was a can of WD40 and I said “should we take this?” Sometimes I really should know better than to listen to him 😏. So many little things that you don’t think of when you don’t know what you’re about to embark on.                               Bring WD40, you’ll need it to grease the wheels, and the stabilizing jacks, and the whatever else. And I guarantee there’s so much more to learn that we forgot to bring. I’ll keep you posted πŸ‘πŸ».

11am. And we just now got our check!!          Shits final!! And I mean final final!!

2:30. Leg one of our driving is done!!!!        Made it a short day today. Getting a feel for packing up and driving this thing around. Easing into this crazy journey. Went well, although the roads driving up the 5 north going through LA were by far the shittiest roads. Poor animals are probably feeling sick from all the jumbling.

Checking in at Castaic Lake RV park in Santa Clarita.

Day 2 of the journey.                                                    11 am tuesday 25th, seems like a good hour to leave. 11 am. Time to wake up, in our case, feed the animals, take them on a walk to do their business, have coffee and breakfast. Put everything away, flush the black and gray waters. Just the freedom of not feeling rushed. The next stop is the KitFox RV park in Patterson, CA.                                                         Fun tidbit, passing through Avenal CA, see a sign claiming they are the pistachio capital of the world. Well, now we know πŸ™‚ We will all learn a lot in this trip.

Day 3. 10:30 am weds 26th.                           Heading north to Redding. James is starting to get this flushing and dumping the black and gray waters from the trailer down. I’ve pretty much got the ‘put anything that will fall in a safe place!’ down. Adaptation. Meaning we can sleep just a few minutes longer. Me likey πŸ™‚

Averaging about 250 miles, 5 hours a day so far. Mostly trying to get out of socal. When we get to the north tip on up to Washington, that’s when there will be sights and beauty and long walks to enjoy. Here, dry, dry bleh.

We are enjoying the RV camping. The dogs LOVE all the smells. Probably get tired of being chained up together, opposite of back home. A nice fenced in yard with a deck and backdoor always open. The last two sites had a little fenced in area for dogs. They were able to get a little playing time in. They love to wrestle. People probably think they are viscous animals they play so hard.  β€‹

Signing off for now. Gonna enjoy this ride and give James a little company. If anything fun happens this trip I’ll let you know.

House for sale!

25 Oct

One house for sale! One house for sale! One beautiful and lovely (we did so much shit on this house to make it amazing I’m kinda sad to see it go) house for sale!!!

Follow us on this journey that we have no idea what we’ve gotten ourselves into, or really exactly where we are going.
